Emaa Hussen allegedly tried to smuggle 320 kg of meth into Australia, concealed in bags of charcoal imported from Ghana.
On Thursday the Sydney Capital Court was visited by the 34‑year‑old British actress after she was charged with importing a commercial quantity of methamphetamine into Australia.
Police allege that Hussen, together with two men from South Australia, supervised the unpacking of shipping containers at a storage facility in Girraween, Sydney’s western suburbs, and guided several men to transport bags of meth to a house in Blacktown, where she was arrested.
The foreign shipment, listed as bags of charcoal, triggered an investigation when border authorities detected anomalies. X‑ray scans revealed a white crystallised substance, later confirmed as meth. Authorities seized the drug before it reached a storage facility.
A 30‑year‑old woman and a 32‑year‑old man were also arrested and charged in Adelaide for using false identities to rent the storage units where the drugs were delivered. The seizure of 320 kg of meth, worth an estimated A$296 million (US$208 million), prevented roughly 3.2 million deals from reaching Australian streets, said Det. Acting Superintendent Trevor Robinson of the Australian Federal Police.
Hussen was refused bail in an earlier court decision and will return to court in August, facing a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The Australian Border Force Superintendent Jared Leighton praised the officers’ efforts, stating that criminal syndicates will go to great lengths to disguise illicit drugs, but their highly skilled officers are trained to see beyond these attempts.
