British actress Emaa Hussen, best known for her role in the EastEnders spin‑off E20 and the 2013 Jason Statham film Hummingbird, has been charged with attempting to smuggle 320 kilograms of methamphetamine into Australia.
Police allege the drugs were concealed in bags of charcoal shipped in containers from Ghana. X‑ray scans at Port Botany revealed a white, crystalline substance that forensic testing later confirmed as meth. The illegal cargo was valued at roughly A$296 million (about US$208m).
A spokesperson for the Australian Federal Police said the seizure prevented an estimated 3.2 million illicit deals from reaching Australian streets. Authorities also arrested a South Australian couple who allegedly used fake identities to rent storage units that housed the confiscated meth.
Hussen was held in court on Thursday and denied bail. She is slated to return for further hearings in August. Her case has drawn attention to the sophisticated methods used by international drug syndicates to smuggle large quantities into the country.
