MEMPHIS, Tenn. — President Donald Trump, who has frequently played Elvis Presley’s music at his campaign rallies and drawn comparisons between himself and the King of Rock and Roll, announced on Monday that he plans to visit Graceland during his stay in Memphis.
I’m going to see Graceland after this, I think. Is that right? Trump remarked during a meeting of the Memphis Safe Task Force. I love Elvis. This visit to the iconic residence starkly contrasts with the pressing domestic and international issues he addressed at the meeting.
Trump's remarks came as thousands of Americans faced significant delays at airports due to an ongoing Homeland Security shutdown, prompting him to deploy federal immigration officers to assist TSA. He also referred to his recent decision to pause planned military strikes on Iranian power plants amidst ongoing regional conflicts.
Graceland, located just a few miles from the roundtable meeting venue, has been a museum and tribute to Elvis Presley since 1982, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Trump's informal visit reflects his ongoing fascination with the late singer, including playing some of Presley's classic songs at his rallies, such as Suspicious Minds and “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You.
During his speech, Trump hinted he was tempted to exaggerate his connection with Elvis, joking about wanting to say he met the iconic performer. I want to see that, he added about Graceland.
Additionally, Trump has previously shared images and social media posts proclaiming their likeness. For instance, in early 2024, he posted a composite photo of himself and Elvis that circulated widely online.
Trump's admiration for Elvis has been evident throughout his political career, even joking at a rally that during his youth, many said he resembled the beloved musician, aside from the hair color.
