TUCSON, Ariz. — It’s been a week since Nancy Guthrie, the mother of 'Today' show host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson home, leading authorities to investigate a potential kidnapping.

Authorities have been analyzing ransom notes and searching for evidence but have not publicly identified any suspects. On February 5, officers returned to Guthrie's residence as part of their extensive search in the upscale neighborhood located in the desert outskirts of Tucson.

The Disappearance

Family members reported last seeing Nancy Guthrie on January 31 around 9:48 PM after a family dinner. Concern grew when she failed to attend church the following day, prompting her relatives to check on her.

Nancy, 84, has health issues including a pacemaker and daily medication needs. Both her family and authorities fear for her well-being as each day passes without her.

Investigative Efforts

Authorities believe that Nancy Guthrie was taken against her will; DNA evidence found on her front porch confirmed the presence of blood. Additionally, a security camera at her home was disconnected shortly before her disappearance, and investigators are attempting to recover lost footage that could provide crucial leads.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that investigators haven’t abandoned efforts to access the camera’s data. Meanwhile, neighborhood watch efforts have led to community support in sharing surveillance footage and information.

Ransom Notes

Recent reports indicated that multiple media outlets received ransom notes related to Nancy's case, demanding money with deadlines for compliance. However, one note was deemed fraudulent, and investigations continue into the authenticity of the remaining messages.

Authorities stress the seriousness of the notes and are keeping the public informed of new developments. Recently, a new message tied to the case was delivered to a local television station.

Family Appeals

As the search continues, Savannah Guthrie and her family have publicly appealed to Nancy’s abductor for proof of her well-being. Savannah described her mother as a kind and loving person, emphasizing the urgency of her mother's medical needs.

Government Involvement

The FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy’s whereabouts. President Trump has also been in contact with Savannah, assuring that federal agencies are contributing to the investigation.

This case has drawn significant public attention, resembling past high-profile kidnappings in the United States, and raises concerns about violent crimes against vulnerable individuals.
