Man Taken into Custody Following Stabbing Incident in Stoneybatter

A shocking knife attack in north Dublin leaves three injured, as police investigate.

Authorities are probing a serious knife incident in Stoneybatter, where three men were harmed, prompting swift action from police and local leaders.

A man has been arrested following a disturbing incident in Stoneybatter, north Dublin, that resulted in injuries to three men, potentially stemming from a knife attack. The Irish police, also known as Gardaí, responded to the scene on Sunday afternoon after reports of a "serious incident," which Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan later described as a "random attack."

According to reports from Irish state broadcaster RTÉ News, two of the injured men sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the third suffered a less grave injury. All three were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical care. Early indications suggest that the injuries were consistent with slashing attacks.

The arrested individual is currently in custody at a police station as investigations continue. Emergency responders set up a significant presence in the Arbour Hill area of Stoneybatter, where the incident reportedly unfolded over several streets.

Mary Lou McDonald, the president of Sinn Féin and local TD, expressed her condolences on social media, stating, "My thoughts are with those injured and their families. The community is in a state of shock." She also praised the Gardaí and emergency services for their swift response.

Minister O'Callaghan has been receiving continuous updates from law enforcement about the unfolding situation, while police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. They are actively investigating all aspects of the case and have cordially requested witnesses—especially those present from 14:30 to 15:30 GMT with potentially relevant video footage—to come forward.

Local Fine Gael councillor Ray McAdam revealed that residents were advised to lock their doors during the chaos. He noted that despite the alarming situation, there is a prevailing sense of hope within Stoneybatter that the injured will recover swiftly. He added that the community felt reassured by the rapid response from law enforcement.
