In a troubling trend, four teenagers have been arrested in Los Angeles for their involvement in a series of burglaries that included the ransacking of actor Brad Pitt's home. The Los Angeles Police Department revealed that the suspects, which consist of two 18-year-olds, a 17-year-old, and a 16-year-old, are affiliated with a street gang and are suspected of targeting multiple celebrity residences.
According to Police Chief Jim McDonnell, these young criminals were responsible for a number of thefts aimed specifically at high-profile individuals in the entertainment and sports industries, although the names of other specific victims have not yet been disclosed. Notable figures, including actress Nicole Kidman, musician Keith Urban, LA Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and former LA Football Club striker Olivier Giroud have reported similar break-ins over the past year.
The investigation began after a trio of masked suspects slipped into Pitt's residence in Los Feliz in late June. It was reported that the group bypassed security by jumping a fence and breaking a window before making off with valuable items. Although police have not confirmed the residence belonged to the Oscar-winning star, its address aligns with a property Pitt recently acquired in 2023.
At the time of the break-in, Pitt was away promoting his most recent film, F1. Despite the ongoing investigation, police were able to track and arrest the suspects on burglary charges last week. During the search of their homes, investigators discovered property believed to have been stolen from these burglaries, although specifics of the recovered items have not been revealed.
McDonnell emphasized that these burglars employed increasingly sophisticated strategies to carry out their crimes, including setting up surveillance cameras nearby and using wi-fi jammers to disable home security systems. He noted that the lifestyles of celebrities and athletes, often shared publicly on social media, can make them more accessible to such criminal acts. He cautioned individuals about oversharing online, as it may inadvertently signal to potential thieves when they are away from home.
