In a shocking incident that has drawn significant attention, a woman in Florida has been apprehended for allegedly impersonating a registered nurse, having treated over 4,000 patients during her fraudulent career. The suspect, identified as Autumn Bardisa, 29, was employed at AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway from July 2023 until her contract was terminated in January 2025 due to questions regarding her qualifications.
The police launched an investigation after Bardisa's employment was abruptly halted following the submission of suspicious documentation. During the inquiry, it was revealed that she had allegedly treated approximately 4,486 patients between June 2024 and January 2025. Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly has called this case “one of the most disturbing instances of medical fraud we've ever seen.”
Authorities uncovered that Bardisa had provided a fake nursing license number that belonged to another nurse with the same first name who worked at a different AdventHealth facility. She attempted to justify the discrepancy by claiming a recent surname change due to marriage, but failed to produce a marriage license when requested.
The turning point came in January when Bardisa was proposed for a promotion. A colleague alerted the authorities after realizing that her nursing assistant license was expired, prompting a crucial investigation. The culmination of the seven-month inquiry led to Bardisa being charged with seven counts of practicing a health care profession without a valid license and seven counts of fraudulent use of personal identification information.
Bardisa was arrested in scrubs at her residence on August 5th, raising serious concerns about the lives she may have endangered by operating unlawfully in a medical capacity. Sheriff Staly remarked on the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the violation of trust across the medical community and the potential risk posed to those under her care.
In light of the alarming revelations, the Flagler County Sheriff's office has established a dedicated email address for individuals who suspect they may have received medical treatment from Bardisa — fakenursecase@flaglersheriff.com. Currently, Bardisa is in custody at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where she is held on a substantial bond of $70,000 (approximately £52,000).
