A British man allegedly attempted to drown his daughter-in-law during a family dispute at a resort in Florida.
A British man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to drown his daughter-in-law in a Florida swimming pool. Mark Gibbon, 62, was vacationing with his family at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, close to the famous Walt Disney World Resort, when a disagreement regarding his grandchildren escalated, according to the Polk County Sheriff's department.
Hailing from Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, Mr. Gibbon is accused of pushing and restraining the 33-year-old woman’s head under the water several times, hindering her ability to breathe. He now faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of battery.
Sheriff Grady Judd commented on the incident, emphasizing that while Polk County welcomes visitors from around the globe, it expects proper conduct from everyone, including tourists. He added, "Because Mr. Gibbon couldn't control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated."
According to reports, the altercation began while the family was at the vacation rental home's swimming pool. During the alleged assault, a young girl jumped in to try to save her mother from being drowned. Mr. Gibbon reportedly ceased his actions only after two sisters vacationing nearby stated they had contacted the sheriff's office.
Following their intervention, he was arrested and taken to Polk County Jail, where he faces serious legal consequences.
