Soldier Opens Fire at Fort Stewart: Five Injured in Shooting Incident

Five American soldiers sustained injuries after an Army sergeant opened fire at Fort Stewart, a military installation located in Hinesville, Georgia. The assailant, identified as Quornelius Radford, reportedly used his personal firearm during the attack, which prompted immediate lockdown measures at the base. Fortunately, quick-acting soldiers tackled and restrained Radford before responding police took him into custody.

Brigadier General John Lubas, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division, shared that all five injured soldiers are currently in stable condition, with three having undergone surgery. Sgt Radford, a member of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, has been placed in pre-trial confinement as army criminal investigators look into the incident. The motive behind the violent act remains unknown, while it has been revealed that Radford had a previous DUI arrest that was not disclosed to military officials prior to the shooting.

The attack unfolded just before 11 a.m. EST, and law enforcement authorities apprehended Radford approximately 39 minutes after the first shots were fired. Footage circulating on social media captured military personnel evacuating the area, while a manager at a Burger King on the base recounted how staff sheltered in a secure location during the lockdown.

President Donald Trump condemned the shooting, referring to the act as an "atrocity" and assured that justice will be served for the victims. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp also expressed support for those affected by the incident, urging residents to keep the families of the injured soldiers in their thoughts and prayers. Fort Stewart, which spans nearly 280,000 acres, serves as one of the largest Army bases in the eastern United States.
