ANNANDALE, Va. (AP) — Police in Virginia say Justin Fairfax, the state’s former lieutenant governor, shot and killed his wife and then fatally shot himself. Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis announced on Thursday that both were found dead at their northern Virginia home after the couple’s teenage son called 911 shortly after midnight. The police chief confirmed that the couple was going through a divorce. Previously, police had responded to their residence in January when Justin Fairfax alleged his wife had assaulted him. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Mrs. Fairfax had installed several cameras inside the home. A review of the footage corroborated that the alleged assault never occurred, leading to no arrest. This tragic incident underscores serious concerns about domestic violence and mental health.
