A gunman was killed and two were injured in a shootout near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul.
Two policemen were slightly injured in the gun fight, Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said.
Ciftci stated that the attackers had arrived in Istanbul from Izmit by rental car, with two of them being brothers.
In a statement, the interior ministry identified the deceased attacker as Yunus E.S., noting his connection to a terrorist organization that exploits religion, a reference understood to be aimed at the Islamic State group, although no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Initially, police had reported that two attackers died, but local governor Davut Gul later clarified that only one had been killed.
The two injured attackers were named as Onur Ç and Enes Ç, who were indeed identified as brothers.
Both injured policemen are reported to be in stable condition, one shot in the leg and the other in the ear.
Governor Gul informed reporters that the attackers utilized both rifles and pistols during the assault.
The consulate, located in Istanbul's business district in Besiktas, was reportedly empty at the time of the attack, as no Israeli diplomatic personnel were present.
Witnesses described the gunfire as loud and persistent, continuing for 15-20 minutes, with videos capturing the moment one shooter was shot by police. An investigation into the attack is ongoing.
