NEW YORK (AP) — LaGuardia Airport has reopened its runway following a tragic collision between a plane and a fire truck that resulted in the deaths of two pilots and injuries to multiple others. The incident occurred late Sunday as an Air Canada regional jet arrived from Montreal.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed that the runway resumed operations around 10 a.m. after all necessary repairs and inspections. LaGuardia remains one of the busiest airports in the United States, and the reopening aims to restore full capacity, though travelers are advised to check their flight statuses, as delays and cancellations continue to impact operations.

Over the past 24 hours, LaGuardia has seen over 300 flight cancellations as investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board assess the circumstances surrounding the collision, which left around 40 individuals requiring medical attention. Most injured parties have since been released from care, including a flight attendant who was ejected onto the tarmac during the crash.

The fire truck involved in the incident has been secured for the investigation, while the damaged Air Canada plane was towed from the site. Michael Rousseau, the CEO of Air Canada, has publicly apologized for his recent comments regarding the tragedy and is working towards reconnecting passengers with their belongings and baggage.
