Tragic School Shooting in Graz Claims Ten Lives

In an extraordinary display of violence, ten lives have been lost due to a school shooting that took place today at the Dreierschützengasse secondary school in Graz, Austria. As confirmed by police, the attacker was among the deceased, and reports suggest that seven of the victims were students. Another 28 individuals are currently receiving treatment for their injuries at local hospitals.

Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker addressed the nation, describing the tragedy as a strike at the heart of the country, emphasizing that these were young lives taken too soon. In a swift response to the incident, police initiated an operation around 10:00 AM local time, deploying a specialized Cobra tactical unit to secure the area after gunshots were reported from within the school.

Authorities ensured the safe evacuation of all students and faculty, with confirmation from police that the school is now secure, posing no further danger to the public. Local mayor Elke Kahr expressed her condolences, labeling the incident a "terrible tragedy."

European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas also expressed her shock, stating that "Every child should feel safe at school and be able to learn free from fear and violence," on her social media platform. The country mourns as it grapples with the aftermath of this horrific event.
