**Tragic Shooting in Midtown Manhattan Claims Lives, Including Police Officer**

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura from Las Vegas, entered the building with an assault rifle and began shooting indiscriminately in the lobby and on higher floors before turning the weapon on himself.

The chaos erupted around 6:30 PM ET, causing nearby pedestrians to flee for safety as the New York Police Department (NYPD) issued alerts of an active shooter. Those inside the building took cover, barricading themselves behind furniture as gunfire rang out. Officer Islam, who was providing security for the building at the time, was the first victim, fatally shot in the lobby.

According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, Tamura arrived in New York just prior to the shooting after a journey across several states. Surveillance footage captured him entering the building at 345 Park Avenue, which houses high-profile tenants including the NFL and Blackstone investment firm. After shooting Officer Islam, he targeted others in the vicinity before continuing to the 33rd floor where he shot another victim, only to take his own life thereafter.

Authorities reported that Tamura had double-parked his BMW outside the building, which revealed additional ammunition and a revolver upon inspection. Local officials and residents mourned the loss of Officer Islam, who had dedicated three years of service to the police force. His bravery was remembered as he leaves behind his wife and two children, with a third child on the way.

The shooting prompted significant disruptions in Midtown, halting public transportation and overwhelming the area with law enforcement responses. Eyewitness accounts described scenes of panic and chaos as dozens were evacuated from adjoining buildings, creating an air of dread and fear. Local coffee shop worker Mama Bouhenni noted the emotional toll it took on those fleeing, many of whom she recognized from her business.
