The man accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson, 22, a Utah native who had been living with his parents for an extended period. Robinson was apprehended on September 12 after a family member recognized him in surveillance images, prompting a significant law enforcement response.

His father allegedly encouraged him to turn himself in, which led to Robinson's arrest. At a press briefing, FBI officials confirmed that they believe they have the correct suspect but noted that the investigation is still in progress.

Robinson's family told investigators that he had become increasingly political, expressing strong opinions about Kirk, whom he described as “full of hate.” This sentiment was shared during a family dinner before the shooting.

Public records indicate Robinson had previously registered as a nonpartisan voter, while his parents are registered Republicans. While he was not enrolled at Utah Valley University, where the shooting occurred, he had been a student in an electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College.

Reports suggest that Robinson was active online, with casings linked to the incident containing references to internet trolling humor, as well as other potential political sentiments. He had used Discord, a social media platform favored by gamers, and investigations into his activities are ongoing as officials work to ascertain his motives and connections.

Tyler Robinson remains in custody while authorities prepare formal charges against him in what they classify as a significant political killing.
