WASHINGTON (AP) — A new AP-NORC poll reveals that President Donald Trump's approval ratings have significantly declined since March, particularly on the economy and immigration, which are crucial areas as the Republican Party prepares for the 2026 midterms.

The poll indicates that only 31% of Americans approve of Trump's handling of the economy, a drop from 40% in March and the lowest approval rating in both his first and second terms so far. Furthermore, conformity between Trump's management and public sentiment seems strained, particularly regarding federal government operations and immigration policies.

Shockingly, Trump’s past strengths are now corresponding to significant declines in approval. His approval rate regarding crime management decreased from 53% to 43%, while immigration numbers fell from 49% to 38% in the latest findings.

As the poll illustrates Trump's struggles to maintain his political victories since returning to office, concerns emerge regarding his overall strategies and their acceptance by the electorate. In fact, even on border security, a previously strong issue for Trump, a slight dip was noted recently.

The poll results indicate that while Trump's overall approval rating remains relatively stable at 36%, down from 42%, many voters are increasingly disgruntled with his economic management. Alarmingly, 68% of U.S. adults view the economy negatively, signifying persistent dissatisfaction with the nation's economic trajectory since he took office.

Looking ahead, the Republican Party faces an uphill battle as they seek to solidify support amidst voter concerns and potential fractures within the party. The polling data highlights a pressing need for adjustments in strategy as Trump attempts to reclaim favor before the crucial election ahead.
