Federal agents shot and killed a man in Minneapolis on Saturday, the second person to be fatally shot in the city during the Trump administration's immigration enforcement crackdown this month.
Local officials identified the man as 37-year-old Alex Pretti, a US citizen who lived in Minneapolis and worked as a nurse.
Videos have emerged showing a scuffle between Border Patrol agents and the man in the lead-up to the shooting. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that agents fired in self-defense after Pretti resisted disarmament while allegedly wielding a handgun.
Eyewitnesses, local officials, and the victim's family challenged this account, suggesting that Pretti had a phone, not a weapon. His parents criticized the administration for spreading sickening lies about their son, pleading for the truth to be revealed.
The incident occurred during a targeted immigration enforcement operation near Nicollet Avenue, escalating tensions in the community. Pretti's parents, Michael and Susan, expressed their devastation and called for transparency, stating, Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends. They added, Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. This tragic shooting, which follows a similar incident two weeks prior, has sparked significant protests and demands for the removal of federal agents from the city.
