Controversial Shooting in Minneapolis Leads to Agent Suspension

Getty ImagesUS Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has placed two agents involved in the fatal shooting of an American citizen in Minneapolis, Alex Pretti, on administrative leave.
The incident, which resulted in the killing of the 37-year-old intensive care nurse, has ignited protests across Minnesota and calls from lawmakers to hold accountable those responsible.
A preliminary report from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) indicates that during a confrontation, two officers shot Pretti while it was alleged that he had brandished a weapon.
It's currently unclear when the agents were suspended or how long their leave will last.
The CBP stated that placing the agents on leave follows their protocol, which typically involves suspending officers during investigations of such incidents.
Previously, CBP Commander Gregory Bovino claimed that the agents remained on the job but had been relocated.
Another officer involved in a separate Minneapolis shooting was also placed on leave during its investigation.
While President Trump recently signaled an intention to de-escalate tensions in Minneapolis, he has also exchanged sharp remarks with the city's mayor regarding federal immigration enforcement.
Recent comments from the mayor affirm Minneapolis' commitment to its sanctuary policies, causing discord with the federal government.
Two agents are under scrutiny as citizens and officials push for comprehensive accountability following the events that led to Pretti's death.
