Providence, R.I. — In continuing investigations into the tragic shooting at Brown University, police have disclosed a timeline of events leading up to the attack, which took place in an engineering building late Saturday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of two students and injuries to nine others.
Security footage from the area captured a person of interest exhibiting suspicious behavior shortly before the incident. The timeline begins with video from 2 p.m. onwards, showing the individual dressed in dark clothing, believed to be evaluating the affluent College Hill area surrounding the university.
Specific timestamps indicate that between 2:00 and 2:06 p.m., the suspect was observed walking along various streets near campus, including significant intervals near the Aldrich House of the Rhode Island Historical Society. Onlookers reported seeing a second individual accompanying the person of interest during part of their trajectory, particularly around the Aldrich House area, drawing attention to both figures for further investigation.
At 4:03 p.m., gunfire erupted in a classroom where students were preparing for their final exams, leading to immediate chaos and an intensive police response. Witness statements reveal that the suspect appeared calm as they retreated from the scene toward the outskirts of the campus.
Authorities are continuing to solicit tips and any supplementary video footage that might provide further insight into the hours leading to the attack as they seek assistance from the broader community.
