Nearly six months after a fragile ceasefire came into force in Gaza, Palestinians in this war-torn territory are still struggling. In the markets, there are again shortages of some goods and rising prices – with merchants saying supplies brought in from Israel have been disrupted by the new war in the region.

What does the war between Iran and Israel have to do with us? Prices have doubled here. Goods aren't coming in like before, says shopper Hassan Faqawi, expressing his despair. In this situation, the whole world is focused on Iran, America, and Israel, and Gaza is forgotten.

While global attention has turned to the escalation with Iran, every day poses increasing uncertainty for Gaza, particularly at this pivotal point in President Trump's peace plan, aimed at stabilizing the region post-conflict. In recent discussions at the UN Security Council, Nickolay Mladenov, the High Representative for Gaza, presented a detailed plan for Palestinian armed groups to decommission their weapons, tying it to the promising start of reconstruction efforts.

However, sources suggest that the prospects of Hamas accepting the proposals are slim, raising fears of renewed military action, as Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu insists on disarmament, stating it must be achieved either the easy way or the hard way.

Complicating matters, Gazans are now facing serious supply shortages amid rising food prices, exacerbated by continuous rain that has overwhelmed sanitation systems in refugee camps. Despite the US’s promises to provide aid and rebuild vital infrastructure, actual support has yet to materialize on a substantial scale. As frustrations among residents mount, many complain that policies imposed by Hamas are exacerbating the economic strain through heavy taxes, further inflating prices.

Beyond the economic challenges, the complexities of political control persist in Gaza, with Hamas signaling an intent to reassert its governing authority. Amid conflicting forces and ongoing violence, locals are drawn into an increasingly precarious reality where hopes for a peaceful resolution wane.
