Poland’s security services have arrested a 45‑year‑old Polish national, identified as Jacek Dobrzynski, after police intercepted evidence of an alleged plot to kill Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz in the Lower Silesia region.
The interior ministry confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody following credible intelligence that a threat to the two officials had been planned. The plot was uncovered when an electronic message detailing the intent to attack was passed to the State Protection Service, which safeguards senior ministers.
“We facing a very serious threat,” a spokesperson for the Special Services Coordinator said to local media. “The likelihood that this plan could actually be carried out is strong.”
Tusk thanked police for “swift and decisive action” in arresting the suspect, adding that the country’s democratic institutions remain protected, and pledged to continue working with security agencies to pre‑empt further threats.
He has been in office again as Poland’s premier since 2023, following a previous stint from 2007‑2014, and had served as president of the European Council from 2014‑2019.
