INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An alarming incident has struck a local politician's home in Indiana, as 13 shots were reportedly fired at the front door of Councilman Ron Gibson's residence. The disturbing event occurred around 12:45 a.m. on a Monday morning, leaving a note that ominously read 'No Data Centers' at the scene.
Fortunately, both Gibson and his 8-year-old son were unharmed, despite the attack taking place just steps away from where his son had been playing with Legos only the day before. This unsettling reality prompted Gibson to express his concerns: 'This was not just an attack on my home, but endangered my child and disrupted the safety of our entire neighborhood.'
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that they found evidence of the gunfire when they arrived at the property shortly after 9 a.m. on that Monday. While no injuries were reported, police noted that they believe the incident to be isolated and targeted, with the FBI now assisting in the investigation.
In a statement following the incident, Gibson condemned the violence, stating, 'I understand that public service can bring strong opinions and disagreement, but violence is never the answer, especially when it puts families at risk. This will not deter me. I will continue to serve the residents of this district with integrity and respect for all voices.'
This incident follows the recent approval of a rezoning petition by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission for a data center developer, Metrobloks, in Gibson’s district—a development that has faced opposition from residents concerned about its potential impact on the community.
Despite fears and threats, Gibson reaffirmed his support for the project, highlighting the underutilized site as crucial for productive neighborhood development.
