Three people have been arrested in connection with a suspected foiled bomb attack on the Bank of America's headquarters in Paris, France's anti-terrorism prosecutor's office said.
An initial suspect was detained at the scene after he placed a device containing five litres of liquid, believed to be fuel, and an ignition system close to the bank, a police source reported. Formula
On Sunday, French security services announced two further arrests were made related to the incident, which took place around 03:30 local time (01:30 GMT) on Saturday in the city's 8th arrondissement, not far from the Champs-Élysées.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez remarked that the attempted attack could be linked to the ongoing U.S.-Israel war with Iran, stating, In this type of conflict, you have a number of Iranian services that are likely to carry out actions such as these through proxies. He underscored the significant suspicion but noted the need for a thorough investigation.
The Iranian embassy in France had not commented on these claims at the time of reporting.
The first suspect, apprehended at the scene, was reportedly accompanied by another individual who filmed the event but fled when law enforcement arrived. Following the investigation initiated on March 28, 2026, two additional individuals were taken into custody on Sunday evening.
Importantly, the primary suspect, identified as a minor, had their detention extended, with French law allowing for a maximum of 96 hours of custody in terrorism-related cases, subject to court approval for extension.
Nuñez indicated that similar thwarted attacks have occurred in other European countries, including the Netherlands, Britain, and Norway, and called for increased vigilance among security services across France.
The anti-terrorism prosecutor's office is leading the investigation into the incident, which is being scrutinized for potential terrorist motives and conspiracy.
Both the Paris judicial police and the General Directorate for Internal Security, France's domestic intelligence agency, are collaborating on the ongoing investigation.
