Delta Provides $30,000 Compensation to Passengers from Crashed Toronto Flight
Delta Air Lines offers financial support to passengers of Flight 4819 after an accident in Toronto.
In a recent development, Delta Air Lines has extended an offer of $30,000 to each passenger who was aboard Delta Flight 4819, which crashed and flipped upside down during its landing attempt in Toronto on Monday. All 80 people—76 passengers and four crew members—onboard survived the incident, although the jet landed roughly, ultimately ending up belly up with its right wing sheared off.
Delta confirmed on Wednesday that they have made this compensation offer, which they described as having "no strings attached" and clarified that it does not affect the passengers' rights. This assurance has become significant as some passengers have retained the Canadian law firm Rochon Genova to assist them following the crash.
While the incident remains under investigation, Delta's CEO Ed Bastian stated in an interview that the flight was staffed with an "experienced crew" but declined to provide additional details regarding the crash. Thankfully, of the 21 individuals taken to hospitals, all but one have been released since the incident, with no reported life-threatening injuries as of Wednesday morning.
Later that day, the remnants of Flight 4819 were successfully removed from Toronto Pearson International Airport, which is noted as Canada's busiest airport, as it had been obstructing two of the primary runways. As investigations continue, many passengers are awaiting further information about the circumstances surrounding the crash from aviation authorities.
