In a shocking turn of events, new buyers of a property in eastern France made a grim discovery while renovating their home— the skeletal remains of the previous owner, Aloïs Iffly. Disappearing in 2009 at the age of 81, the mystery of Iffly’s fate has perplexed authorities for over a decade.

Prosecutors revealed on Monday that the remains were found in an attic compartment while the new homeowners were addressing a leak in the roof. Prosecutor Olivier Glady stated that the scene suggested a suicide, noting that a rope was still hanging from the attic after the remains were uncovered on November 2.

Local newspaper Le Republicain Lorrain reported that Iffly's wife continued residing in the home until her passing in 2020, which prompted its recent sale. The property is located in Erstroff, a quaint village less than an hour from Saarbrücken, Germany. Following the shocking discovery, law enforcement has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Iffly's death, with his remains sent to Strasbourg for an autopsy.

This startling find marks a potential conclusion to the long-standing mystery of Iffly’s disappearance, which has seen extensive search efforts over the years. The results of the autopsy could hold crucial information regarding the case that has remained unsolved since 2009, bringing closure to a perplexing chapter for both the community and the family involved.
