McEWEN, Tenn. (MetaWorld.Media) — Investigators are currently probing a catastrophic blast that demolished an explosives factory in Tennessee, leaving 18 people unaccounted for and families in despair.

The explosion on Friday morning at Accurate Energetic Systems, a supplier of munitions to the military, scattered debris over a half-mile radius and was felt by residents over 15 miles away. Aerial views captured a scene of devastation with twisted metal and smoking remnants.

Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis addressed the media, noting the tremendous loss: “What we need right now is our communities to come together and understand that we’ve lost a lot of people.” The sheriff offered condolences to the families of the 18 missing individuals, referring to them as “souls,” and confirmed that multiple fatalities have occurred.

The Accurate Energetic Systems facility spans across wooded hills in the Bucksnort area, known for its handling of explosive materials. The exact number of employees present at the time of the explosion is currently unknown.

A social media post from the company expressed their prayers for those impacted and gratitude towards first responders working diligently amidst the chaos.

Witnesses from nearby Lobelville described the moment of the explosion, feeling their homes shake horrendously. One local, Gentry Stover, recounted startling details—“I thought the house had collapsed.” In light of this tragedy, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee urged citizens to pray for the affected families as the investigation into the cause of the explosion begins.

Local community members gathered later that night, lighting candles and singing to support families affected by the tragedy.

Although the incident is under investigation, this event echoes previous industrial accidents in U.S. history, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding worker safety in hazardous environments.
