The US has seized a sanctioned vessel in international waters off the coast of Venezuela, US officials have confirmed.
This marks the second operation of its kind this month, resulting from President Trump's order for a blockade against oil tankers accessing or leaving Venezuela.
Venezuela has not yet responded to this latest development but has previously accused the US of stealing its oil resources.
The operation, led by the US Coast Guard, involved a specialized tactical team boarding the ship. In recent weeks, the US has increased its military presence in the Caribbean, reportedly launching strikes on Venezuelan vessels linked to drug smuggling, which have resulted in significant casualties.
Despite these actions, the US has not publicly substantiated claims regarding drug transport on such vessels, drawing scrutiny from Congress.
US officials have characterized Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro as part of a terrorist organization, a claim Maduro vehemently denies. The US administration alleges that Maduro and his associates exploit 'stolen' oil funds to finance a range of illicit activities.
Venezuela, known for possessing the world's largest proven oil reserves, heavily relies on oil revenues to support its economy.
This blockade announcement follows the earlier seizure of another oil tanker alleged to be involved in illicit shipping linked to Venezuela.
The situation continues to evolve, with ongoing updates expected as the story develops.
