Two Killed in Domestic Violence Incident at German School Near Berlin

In the town of Gosen‑Neu Zittau, just southeast of Berlin, a 19‑year‑old man arrested by Brandenburg police opened fire at the private Docemus school.

The incident, described by authorities as a ‘domestic violence incident’, resulted in the deaths of an 18‑year‑old female student and a 30‑year‑old man who attempted to intervene. The suspect is believed to be the former boyfriend of the student, though it is not yet confirmed whether he was a student at the school.

Police reported that the shooting was not a mass shooting, but the weapon used has not been specified. The school’s managing director announced that classes would be cancelled on Friday, though the campus would remain open for students who wished to attend. He stated: “We want to provide a safe space where students can come together, talk and process what has happened.”

Regional parliament speaker Ulrike Liedtke called the incident a “cowardly femicide,” expressing deep sorrow and anger. State premier Dietmar Woidke described the act as an “unimaginable act of violence.”

Police have secured the crime scene and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
