Six killed in Iowa domestic shooting, police say

On Monday morning, a series of shootings shattered the quiet of Muscatine, leaving six dead and sparking a sharp‑escalating police investigation.

Deputies first responded to a home where four people were shot and pronounced dead on the scene. That same day, detectives found a seventh victim at a second residence, and a business on a metal‑works street. All victims are thought to be relatives of the suspect, 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland.

The suspect was located on a riverfront trail near a pedestrian bridge, where he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead. Police are continuing to examine evidence for a domestic‑related dispute that may have spurred the shootings.

Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies described the incident as an "act of evil," but has not released names or ages of the victims. He noted the suspect had a known criminal record.

The city of Muscatine, a 23-500 population community on the Mississippi River, is coping with the loss through community support and calls for better resources to address domestic violence.

Touchstones for virtual engagement: a live‑stream press conference is slated for 2 p.m. CST, offering attendees an interactive walkthrough of the crime scenes, audio monologues from local politicians, and a community Q&A.
