JASPER, Ga. — A shooting incident at a Department of Veterans Affairs clinic in Jasper, located in the southern Blue Ridge mountains of Georgia, has left one individual hospitalized. The local police confirmed that they received calls reporting the shooting around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, leading to an immediate response.


Upon arrival, officers located the suspected shooter and confronted the individual, who was subsequently shot in the incident. At least one person was airlifted to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the shooting.


As of Tuesday afternoon, calls placed to the Pickens County VA clinic were routed to various recordings, indicating a disruption in normal operations. The clinic, which provides vital health services including primary care, telehealth, and mental health support, opened in the summer of 2020.


Emergency responders, including more than a dozen law enforcement officers equipped in tactical gear, were seen actively managing the scene near the strip mall where the clinic is situated.


Jasper is a small community with a population of around 5,000, located approximately 60 miles north of downtown Atlanta. Local officials have emphasized the importance of this clinic in ensuring veterans receive essential care within their home community.
