TUCSON, Ariz. — Investigators are imploring local residents to share surveillance footage from specific dates leading up to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of NBC's Savannah Guthrie. Authorities have been inundated with over 4,000 tips as the case unfolds in hope of uncovering vital information.
As of late Thursday, the status of the investigation remained uncertain. Recently released surveillance images captured a masked individual on Nancy Guthrie's porch the night she vanished, igniting hopes for a significant breakthrough. However, hope was tempered when the man detained for questioning was released without charges.
On Wednesday, FBI officials, battling the heat with water in hand, canvassed the area surrounding Guthrie’s Tucson home, meticulously searching rocks, desert vegetation, and knocking on doors about a mile from her residence. Witness Ann Adams reported that investigators also inquired about any suspicious activity captured by surveillance cameras in the neighborhood.
Authorities confirmed that Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, was reportedly taken against her will. DNA tests revealed that blood found on her porch belonged to her, and concern is mounting regarding her health, given her reliance on medication.
Further complicating the investigation, news stations indicated that residents with Ring doorbell cameras had received notifications requesting footage from as early as January 11 — nearly three weeks before Nancy went missing. The request suggests investigators are piecing together a timeline that may extend beyond the initial disappearance.
As detectives continue to sift through evidence, reports surfaced of black gloves recovered at the scene, currently undergoing DNA analysis. The breadth of the investigation has expanded significantly, with hundreds of detectives now actively engaged in the inquiry.
As the case progresses, the Guthrie family, while grappling with the ordeal, has expressed their willingness to consider all avenues, including the potential for ransom, amid an overwhelming sense of concern for Nancy's safety.
