The US Department of Justice (DoJ) released its latest - and largest - tranche of files on Jeffrey Epstein on Tuesday. The 11,000-plus documents continue a stream of released information that began on Friday, the deadline mandated in a law that required the department to publicly release all of its investigative files into the late convicted sex offender.
Many of the documents released on Tuesday were redacted with names and information blacked out, including names of people who the FBI appears to cite as possible co-conspirators in the Epstein case. The DoJ is facing criticism from lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle over the amount of redactions in its files.
Among the most discussed findings was the increased mention of US President Donald Trump. Trump’s involvement is predominantly noted in media clippings, although one email indicated he had flown on Epstein's jet, highlighting his more frequent ties than previously reported.
Furthermore, emails also detail possible co-conspirators, suggesting that six individuals had received subpoenas, while four others were still under investigation. Notably, Ghislaine Maxwell’s name remained unredacted in the context of these discussions, along with Former Victoria's Secret CEO Les Wexner.
In a peculiar twist, the release included a fake video supposedly depicting Epstein in prison, raising questions about misinformation and verifying authenticity in such significant documents.
"additional_notes": "The DoJ has stated that claims against Trump were found to be untrue and sensationalist. The release of these documents has heightened the calls for transparency and accountability regarding Epstein's connections and the people surrounding him.
