President Vladimir Putin has stated that Moscow disagrees with parts of a US plan on how to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, following discussions with American negotiators at the Kremlin.

At times we said that yes, we can discuss this, but to that we can't agree, Putin mentioned in an interview with India Today.

Although he refrained from detailing the specific points of contention, major issues reportedly revolve around the fate of territories captured by Russian forces and the security guarantees for Ukraine.

Steve Witkoff, representing the US at the talks, is set to further converse with Ukrainian negotiators in Florida. Donald Trump commented on the discussions, stating that they had been reasonably good but acknowledged the difficulty of making predictions about the outcome.

Putin also indicated that Moscow had not been presented with a revised version of the US peace proposal prior to the nearly five-hour discussions that took place. He insisted that all points were reviewed, which contributed to the duration of the negotiations.

The Russian president reiterated his demand for the withdrawal of Ukrainian military forces from eastern Donbas, emphasizing that territory could either be regained by military means or through a Ukrainian withdrawal.

Yuri Ushakov, a senior advisor to Putin, remarked that the negotiations yielded no compromise, suggesting that Russia's negotiating stance may have been bolstered by its recent military successes.

Discontent was expressed by Ukrainian officials, with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybhia accusing Putin of wasting the world's time, while President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed any ideas of ceding territory without firm security guarantees.

Zelensky has also maintained that any negotiations must be supported by international pressure on Russia, which is accused of stalling agreements for a ceasefire.

The conflict, ongoing since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has seen Russian forces gaining control over a significant portion of Ukrainian territory amid continued military engagements in southeastern regions.
