Ben Dancer, a 33‑year‑old professional from Nigeria, is attempting a 168‑hour dance marathon in Freedom Park, Lagos. The goal is to overtake the current 127‑hour record set by an Indian dancer in 2023.
During the marathon, Dancer switches between modern hip‑hop beats, Afrobeats, fuji and traditional ethnic rhythms, wearing outfits such as agbada and dashiki to reflect Nigeria’s 250+ ethnic groups.
Crowds of young people gather daily, filming his every move on phones and livestreaming the event, resulting in a viral online sensation. Media commentators note the sheer endurance required, as he pauses only five minutes for every hour of dance and receives medical support from a dedicated team.
Supporters claim that beyond a personal record, the performance celebrates national unity and showcases the country’s rich cultural heritage. If finished, Guinness World Records may officially recognize the record, adding Nigeria to a growing list of world‑record winners.
