ICE agent shoots man in New York City
An ICE officer in the Bronx discharged his weapon during a "targeted enforcement operation" and shot a 32‑year‑old man who was sought for a criminal‑illegal alien status. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the shooting, noting the victim was treated at a local hospital and survived. The DHS also identified the suspect as a Dominican national with a record of grand larceny and multiple assault, robbery, drug, and weapons convictions, and alleged ties to the trans‑national gang Trinitarios.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the incident an "unconscionable and incredibly serious situation" and warned the federal office to reconsider under‑city enforcement. He added on X that "ICE agents terrorise our communities" and that he would speak to President Trump to halt such operations. Meanwhile, Governor Kathy Hochul called Trump to express "outrage on behalf of New Yorkers" and demanded the release of body‑camera footage to verify the facts.
Protesters on the scene chanted "We want justice" and "ICE off our streets now," joining voices across the country after earlier high‑profile ICE shootings, including the death of Renee Good in Minneapolis.
