PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Federal immigration officers shot and wounded two people outside a hospital in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday, just one day after an officer fatally shot a driver in Minnesota, according to authorities.

The FBI’s Portland office has initiated an investigation into the 'agent-involved shooting,' which occurred around 2:15 p.m. The Portland Police Bureau received reports of a shooting incident near a hospital and subsequently responded to the scene.

Police later learned a man wounded from the shooting was seeking assistance a few miles away, where they discovered two individuals with apparent gunshot wounds. Authorities determined they were injured in the earlier incident involving federal agents.

The conditions of the injured individuals have not yet been disclosed. Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney confirmed that both individuals were from Portland and expressed hope for positive updates regarding their health.

As investigations continue, officials emphasize the need for community calm amid ongoing tension following the recent shooting in Minneapolis. Portland Mayor Keith Wilson, along with city councilors, has urged for an end to federal operations in the city until a thorough investigation is completed, stating, 'We cannot sit by while constitutional protections erode and bloodshed mounts.'

Senator Jeff Merkley has also urged for peaceful protests, advising citizens not to provoke violence. 'Trump wants to generate riots. Don’t take the bait,' he stated on social media.

Chief Bob Day of the Portland Police reassured the community that they are in the early stages of the investigation and are working diligently to gather more information.
