Heavy rain over the last 48 hours has overwhelmed Bangkok’s canal system, prompting authorities to declare the entire city a flood disaster zone.

Water has surged through streets and neighbourhoods, flooding low‑lying areas and overwhelming drainage infrastructure. Local officials are working to pump excess water into the sea while residents are urged to stay at home.

Those living near the network of canals are specifically advised to move personal belongings to upper floors. The situation is expected to worsen with additional rain forecast for Sunday.
