The 2025 Emmys: A Deep Dive into Nominees, Hosts, and How to Watch
Adolescence, The White Lotus, Severance, and The Penguin are a few of the TV shows that will battle it out later at the Emmys, the television industry's most prestigious awards ceremony.
Owen Cooper, the 15-year-old British star of Adolescence, Netflix's series about a teenager accused of murdering a classmate, could become the youngest male actor ever to win an Emmy.
Elsewhere, a campaign led by US chat show hosts following the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert could see the programme win outstanding talk series for the first time.
The ceremony will take place on Sunday evening at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
The Studio, Andor, Hacks, Slow Horses, The Bear, Nobody Wants This and The Last of Us are among the other shows competing for the top prizes.
Who is hosting the Emmys?
US comedian Nate Bargatze is this year's Emmys host. Bargatze may not be a household name in the UK, but he is well known to American viewers and sold more tickets to his shows than any other stand-up in the US last year.
The 46-year-old is unlikely to go the Ricky Gervais route with a controversial opening monologue, opting instead for a family-friendly approach with observational humor.
Which TV shows are nominated?
This year's Emmy nominations are divided into three categories: comedy, drama, and limited series. Strong contenders in the outstanding drama category include The White Lotus, Andor, Paradise, and Severance.
For comedy, The Bear and Hacks vie for the top accolades. Additionally, the limited series lineup includes Adolescence and Black Mirror.
Nominees for best supporting actors include Aimee Lou Wood, Walton Goggins, and Javier Bardem, while lead categories boast names like Cate Blanchett and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Record breakers and controversies
Owen Cooper is in contention to make history as the youngest ever winner for acting in an Emmy category, while Roxana Zal remains the youngest winner for acting overall at just 14 years old.
With significant interest also surrounding the variety talk series category, Stephen Colbert's The Late Show faces intense competition and public support from rivals like Jimmy Kimmel.
How to watch the Emmy Awards
The ceremony will commence at 17:00 PT / 20:00 ET on Sunday, or 01:00 BST on Monday for UK viewers. In the US, it will broadcast live on CBS and be available on streaming service Paramount+, while UK access includes live updates on the BBC News website.
Among many categories announced in the preceding weekends' Creative Arts Emmys, only major awards will be revealed during the live ceremony.
