Lil Nas X Faces Legal Troubles After Arrest in Los Angeles

Rapper Lil Nas X has pleaded not guilty to injuring a police officer and resisting arrest after he was detained last week while wandering the streets of Los Angeles naked.

The rapper, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, faces three felony counts of battery with injury to a police officer and one felony count of resisting arrest. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

When police responded to a call about a nude man, Lil Nas X reportedly charged at the officers. He was admitted to the hospital for a possible overdose following the incident that occurred early Thursday morning.

The 26-year-old artist was arraigned in a Los Angeles courthouse on Monday, where his bail was set at $75,000 (£55,456), as reported by CBS, the BBC's US news partner.

According to unverified videos published by TMZ, he was seen dancing along Ventura Boulevard in Studio City wearing just white underwear and cowboy boots before the police altercation unfolded. Later footage showed him completely nude and rapping along to Kayne West's song Monster.

His white cowboy boots were reportedly picked up by a passerby, who attempted to sell them on eBay for $10,000.

Los Angeles police confirmed they responded to reports of a man walking nude in the street, where he charged at officers upon their arrival. During the incident, three officers reportedly sustained injuries trying to detain the rapper.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated, Attacking police officers is more than just a crime against those individuals but a direct threat to public safety. Everyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences, no matter how famous they may be.

Lil Nas X is expected to release his anticipated second studio album, Dreamboy, later this year and has recently teased new music on social media.

He previously made history as the first openly gay man to win a Country Music Association award with his hit song, Old Town Road, and has won multiple Grammy Awards for his works.

Throughout his career, Lil Nas X has faced both acclaim and controversy, responding to backlash surrounding some of his music videos with humor and audacity, affirming his unique place in the industry.
