Hollywood star Jamie Foxx shares his life-changing health journey in a heartfelt address.
In a moving Netflix special titled "Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was...", the Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has opened up about his harrowing experience with a stroke that occurred in April 2023. Foxx disclosed that the critical situation began with a severe headache, prompting him to request aspirin. However, before he could take it, he blacked out and lost 20 days of his memory.
At that time, his daughter Corinne Foxx had only informed the public about a "medical complication," keeping the specifics private until he felt ready to share. The incident took place while Foxx was filming Netflix’s "Back In Action" in Atlanta. He recounted how he was initially sent home after receiving a cortisone injection, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, noticed a significant change in him. Concerned, she took him to Piedmont Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a brain bleed, indicating urgent surgery was needed.
Foxx reflected on the surreal experience during the operation, stating, “Your life doesn’t flash before your face; it was kind of oddly peaceful. I saw a tunnel, but not the light.” He humorously added, “It was hot in that tunnel, am I going to the wrong place?” After surgery, the doctor warned his family that while Foxx had a chance for a full recovery, the coming year would be particularly challenging.
Grateful for the support of his sister and daughter, Foxx expressed appreciation for keeping his condition under wraps, saying he didn’t want fans to see him in such a vulnerable state. He shared that after waking up on May 4, 2023, he found himself in a wheelchair and was initially in denial about having suffered a stroke. He soon began rehabilitation in Chicago, emphasizing the strength and love of his family during this difficult time.
With Foxx's first-hand recounting of this significant health scare, viewers are reminded of the importance of recognizing stroke symptoms, which include facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech difficulties. As he continues his recovery, Jamie Foxx serves as an inspiration, showcasing resilience and the vital role of familial support in overcoming adversity.
