Police Expand Search Efforts in Ongoing Madeleine McCann Case
Investigators return to Algarve region to seek new evidence in disappearance of British girl last seen in 2007.
The Polícia Judiciária, Portugal’s primary criminal investigation agency, confirmed that the operation was initiated following a legal request from Germany. They are keen to uncover any evidence that could be relevant to the case, particularly as authorities suspect Brückner may have played a role in the child's disappearance. According to police statements, all evidence gathered will be transferred to the German Federal Criminal Police Service with approval from Portugal's national Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police, who oversaw the original investigation, acknowledged awareness of the operation but opted not to take part directly, offering assistance as required. Brückner, 48, who is currently serving a seven-year sentence in Germany for a separate crime, remains the primary suspect in the McCann case.
