Muanema Fakira, a mother from central Mozambique, recently encountered this struggle firsthand with her 2-year-old daughter, Sumaya. After noticing her daughter’s cloudy left eye, Muanema sought help locally, only to face disappointment from health clinics that lacked the necessary resources. However, hope emerged when she learned of Dr. da Gama and embarked on a grueling 100-mile journey to Quelimane.

Upon examination, Dr. da Gama diagnosed Sumaya with a congenital cataract and reassured Muanema that a simple surgical procedure could restore her vision.
