US Judge Denies Mother’s Extradition Appeal in Children’s Murder Case
A mother faces extradition to the US after allegations of murdering her two children.
A judge in Westminster Magistrates' Court has denied Kimberlee Singler’s extradition challenge, as she is accused of murdering her two children back in Colorado. The 36-year-old mother was apprehended in London on December 30, 2023, just eleven days after the tragic deaths of her nine-year-old daughter, Elianna, and seven-year-old son, Aden. The children were found deceased on December 19, 2023, in Colorado Springs, sparking a nationwide search for Ms. Singler.
District Judge John Zani, who presided over the case, made it clear that the issue of extradition now rests with the Home Secretary, who will ultimately decide Ms. Singler’s future. The judge’s decision follows grim testimonies detailing the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths.
According to prosecutors, involved in the extradition proceedings on behalf of US authorities, the mother allegedly fled to the UK amidst contentious custody battles with her ex-husband, Kevin Wentz. Testimonies presented in September revealed that on the night of the children’s death, police responded to a 911 call about a burglary, only to find both Elianna and Aden dead at the scene, alongside a "blood-stained handgun" on the bedroom floor.
The investigation included DNA testing, which indicated the presence of both the children's and Ms. Singler’s profiles on the firearm and a knife found in the residence. A third child, whose identity remains undisclosed, was recovered with severe neck injuries but survived her wounds. Prosecutors also highlighted that Ms. Singler attempted to shift blame to her husband, but investigators found he had an irrefutable alibi, having been tracked by GPS elsewhere in Denver at the time of the incident. As the legal proceedings unfold, the matter of extradition is poised to continue capturing public attention.
