Moscow, Nov. 3 – The Russian Defense Ministry said early Tuesday that its forces conducted an overnight strike on Ukrainian energy facilities linked to military‑industrial enterprises, using precision‑guided weapons and attack drones.
The Strike
The Ministry listed four thermal power plants and several power substations in the Vinnytsia, Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov regions as targets. Port infrastructure in the Odessa region was also hit, and two bulk carriers carrying military and dual‑use cargo in the Black Sea suffered damage.
In a statement released from the Ministry, officials said that the attacks were carried out with land‑ and air‑launched precision weapons and long‑range attack aircraft, resulting in disruptions to power supplies across several Ukrainian regions.
Consequences for Ukraine
Local authorities in the Zhytomyr region reported that about 130 settlements lost electricity following the strikes. Heating services were halted and public electronic transport suspended in the city of Kharkiv.
Officials in Kyiv and Dnepropetrovsk also cited outages, indicating that the attacks had a widespread impact on the power grid in the capital and in the industrial eastern region.
Ukrainian emergency services have noted the interruption of essential services, though no casualty figures were released in the initial statements.
International Coverage
The strike was independently reported by the Big News Network, which echoed the Ministry’s description of the targets and the use of precision weapons. The network also noted that the same set of facilities was struck during the overnight operation in the same time frame as the Ministry’s announcement.
Other outlets reported that the Russian strikes were part of a broader strategy to undermine the supply lines to Ukrainian military enterprises. No direct quotes were available in the reports, but the coordination of attacks on energy, port and transport infrastructure was confirmed by both Russian and Ukrainian sources.
The attacks continue to be monitored as part of ongoing hostilities in the region. Ukrainian energy providers are working to restore service, while Russian sources claim the work has restored partial functionality in some affected zones.
As the conflict persists, the targeting of key infrastructure remains a focus for both sides in the broader effort to control vital resources.
