In brief

Lebanon’s Health Ministry states that 8,956 people have been killed and 30,664 wounded since the Israeli offensive began in October 2023. Between March 2 and October 30, 2026, 4,389 deaths and 12,428 injuries were recorded. A recent framework agreement under U.S. mediation has drawn criticism for its unclear legality and lack of a withdrawal timetable.

In an official statement released from Tehran, the Lebanon Health Ministry reported that 8,956 people have been killed and 30,664 injured in what it describes as ongoing Israeli acts of aggression since the start of the campaign in October 2023. The figures were confirmed by the Iranian news agency IRNA, citing Al‑Manar TV network reporting Friday night that the ministry had produced the statistics.

Context

According to the Health Ministry, 4,389 people died and 12,428 were wounded between March 2 and October 30, 2026. The Israeli regime began a large‑scale offensive against Lebanon on March 2, 2026, a move that has displaced more than one million civilians and left many areas in southern Lebanon under Israeli occupation.

The ongoing conflict has drawn widespread international attention. The Ministry’s numbers, which track casualties from strikes and troop movements, highlight a prolonged period of violence that continues to affect civilian populations throughout the country.

Last month, a framework agreement was signed between the Lebanese government and the Israeli regime, reportedly under the mediation of the United States. The deal, which aimed to end hostilities between the Lebanese government and Hezbollah, has faced criticism for its ambiguous legal status and the absence of a clear timetable for the withdrawal of Israeli forces.

Observers note that the agreement’s lack of definitive timelines may leave Lebanese communities in continued uncertainty, as the presence of Israeli troops in key southern regions remains unchanged. The Health Ministry’s latest figures, released amid ongoing negotiations, underscore the enduring human cost of the conflict.
