Trump Imposes Blockade on Iranian Ports: US Stands Firm Until Deal
The US will not lift its blockade on Iranian ports until a deal has been reached with Tehran, US President Donald Trump has said, amid continuing uncertainty over whether fresh talks to end the war will take place.
The blockade, which began a week ago, is absolutely destroying Iran, Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, adding his country was winning the conflict by a lot. His comments come with the temporary US-Iran ceasefire set to end soon.
There is heightened anticipation of a meeting in Pakistan, where US Vice President JD Vance is expected to lead the US delegation. However, Iran has yet to confirm its attendance.
Since the blockade began, US forces have directed several vessels to turn around, and the US also intercepted an Iranian-flagged ship that attempted to pass through the blockade. Iran condemned this action as an act of piracy.
As the US prepares for possible talks, Tehran insists it will not lift its blockade on the Strait of Hormuz until the US suspends its blockade on Iranian ports. The situation remains fluid with indications that the second round of peace talks may occur, despite Tehran's hesitance.
