Trump Forecasts Iran War Won’t End Until After November Elections

In a televised tour of Texas ahead of the first-ever Republican midterm convention, former U.S. President Donald Trump declared that his administration would not see the war with Iran conclude until after the national elections on 3 November. The president also warned that oil prices, which had hit double‑digit levels, would continue to climb until the conflict resolves.

Trump’s remarks come amid rising criticism within his party and a wave of global protests over the economic fallout generated by the conflict. “The war’s going to end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer,” Trump told reporters, adding that Iran may try to manipulate the U.S. political landscape in its favour.

While Tehran has denied seeking nuclear capabilities, Trump asserted that the nation's leadership remains “desperate to try and affect the election” – a claim that officials say is unsupported by evidence. He further suggested that a post‑election resolution would see the oil market settle and prices tumble.

Following the launch of the midterm convention, Trump alluded to the possibility of renewed talks with Tehran, though he emphasised it was not a priority. The conflict, now in its seventh month, has escalated as U.S. forces struck five Iranian‑linked tankers, while Tehran retaliated by launching attacks on U.S. Navy vessels and oil facilities in the Strait of Hormuz.

Economists warn that sustained petro‑economic tensions risk pushing global prices higher and potentially warming U.S. interest rates. The move also arrives at a time when Congressional power could shift after the November elections, heightening the stakes for the administration.
