FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A tragic shooting at Kentucky State University on Tuesday left one individual dead and another critically wounded, according to police reports. The suspect is now in custody.
The Frankfort police, responding to the active aggressor situation, confirmed that the campus was placed on lockdown as multiple police units secured the area. Footage from local news outlets revealed a heavy police presence around a cluster of dormitories, with crime scene tape marking the affected vicinity.
The exact location of the shooting on campus remains unclear as authorities work to gather more information. Campus police and university officials have not yet provided additional details.
In response to the situation, the governor's office acknowledged the incident. “We will share more information as available,” Governor Andy Beshear posted on X. “Law enforcement is on scene, and a suspect has been arrested. Let’s pray for all those affected.”
Kentucky State University, a public historically Black institution established in 1886, has a student population of around 2,200. The university is located approximately two miles east of the state Capitol.
