Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe, 24, a member of the National Guard, is in recovery mode after suffering a serious head wound from a shooting incident last month in Washington, DC. His family noted that he is slowly healing and starting to 'look more like himself,' as stated by West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey.
The family anticipates that the Air Force staff sergeant will remain in acute care for the next two to three weeks while showing signs of progress. On November 26, Wolfe and his colleague, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, were shot when a gunman opened fire in the vicinity of the White House. Tragically, Beckstrom succumbed to her injuries.
Governor Morrisey expressed optimism and has requested the public’s prayers for Wolfe and his family. He attended a vigil at Musselman High School in Inwood, West Virginia, where Wolfe was previously a student. During the vigil, the family expressed their gratitude for the support and prayers they are receiving from across the globe.
Further signs of Wolfe's recovery came earlier this week when he responded positively to medical staff with a thumbs-up and demonstrated movement in his toes. In connection with the shooting, authorities have charged Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal with first-degree murder. Lakanwal, who previously served as a soldier in a CIA-backed counterterrorism unit in Afghanistan, came to the United States in 2021.
President Trump, who had previously deployed National Guard members to Washington, DC, cited the shooting as a reason for an additional call for troops amidst ongoing immigration discussions.
