A Russian drone and missile strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv has killed at least one person and injured seven others, city officials say.

Early on Saturday morning, residential buildings in several districts were hit, and loud explosions could be heard across the city.

Kyiv's mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, reported that a 13-year-old child was among the injured, with four individuals hospitalized.

Earlier this week, a similar attack on Kyiv resulted in seven fatalities, as confirmed by Ukrainian officials. The latest bombardment coincides with Ukrainian negotiators preparing to meet US officials this weekend to discuss an amended peace plan.

The head of Kyiv's military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, stated that the strike hit multiple targets on the capital's outskirts. He updated that air defense systems were responding to the ongoing threat.

The body of a man was recovered from the Sviatoshynskyi district, confirming one fatality from the strike. Two women were also injured in the nearby town of Brovary.

Klitschko noted that the attack ignited a fire in the lower floors of a high-rise apartment building, with another fire controlled in a central district.

Following a week of deadly retaliatory strikes between Russia and Ukraine, the latest attack raises grave concerns over the stability of ongoing peace talks. President Donald Trump’s push for a draft peace proposal aims to mediate the ongoing conflict, but challenges remain as Russia’s demands for Ukrainian territory continue to complicate negotiations.

President Putin reaffirmed his stance, stating military action would cease only if Ukraine withdraws from claimed territories. Ukrainian leader Zelensky emphasized that upcoming meetings seek to lay groundwork that advances peace and security guarantees.
